The Yerevan Opera Theatre, officially the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, is one of the city’s best-known landmarks. Designed by architect Alexander Tamanyan and opened in the 1930s, it is valued for its distinctive circular form and role in Armenia’s cultural life. Visitors come for opera, ballet, and concerts, as well as for the lively square and cafés around the building. Even if you do not attend a performance, the theatre is worth a stop for its architecture and central location.
