Wismar, Germany
Alter Schwede is one of Wismar’s most recognizable historic buildings, standing on the Market Square since 1380. This well-preserved brick Gothic merchant’s house offers a clear glimpse of the city’s Hanseatic past and is among the oldest town houses of its kind in northern Germany. Visitors interested in medieval architecture and Wismar’s trading history will find it especially worthwhile. Its central location also makes it an easy stop while exploring the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
