Wanaka, New Zealand
Mount Iron Track is a short, well-formed loop walk just outside Wānaka, climbing a glacial rock knoll to broad, 360-degree views. In 1.5–2 hours return, you’ll overlook Lake Wānaka, the Pisa Range, and the Upper Clutha River, with interpretive panels explaining geology and local history. The climb is steady but manageable for most walkers; it can be hot and exposed, so bring water and sun protection. Close to town, with parking at the trailhead, it’s an easy add-on to a Wānaka itinerary and a reliable vantage point when higher alpine tracks are weathered-in. Dogs are not permitted.
