About Santa Maria della Salute

Santa Maria della Salute is a 17th-century Baroque basilica set at the mouth of the Grand Canal, built in gratitude for Venice’s deliverance from the plague. Designed by Baldassare Longhena, its striking octagonal plan, domes, and white Istrian stone create an iconic silhouette. Inside, find works by Titian and Tintoretto and a luminous, spacious nave. The church is free to enter, with small fees for the sacristy. Its waterfront steps offer classic views toward St. Mark’s Basin, making it a rewarding stop for architecture, art, and photography within an easy walk from Dorsoduro and central Venice.
