Tucked in the foothills of Trinidad’s Northern Range, the Asa Wright Nature Centre is a former cocoa–coffee estate turned renowned wildlife sanctuary. Visitors come for easy access to rich rainforest, excellent birdwatching from the veranda, and knowledgeable guided walks along well-maintained trails. Over 170 bird species are regularly recorded, including toucans, trogons, motmots, and the mesmerizing oilbird colony at nearby Dunston Cave (by arranged tour). The centre also offers native gardens, feeders alive with hummingbirds, and on-site lodging.
