Khorezm Mamun Academy in Urganch celebrates the region’s legacy as a center of medieval scholarship. Named after the 10th–11th-century ruler Ma'mun ibn Muhammad, it recalls the era when Khorezm attracted leading astronomers, mathematicians, and physicians, including Al-Biruni. Today, the academy is mainly of interest for its historical and intellectual significance rather than grand architecture. Visit if you enjoy the history of science, Islamic civilization, or want deeper context before exploring the wider Khorezm region and nearby Khiva.
