Solitude Palace (Schloss Solitude) is an elegant late Rococo retreat built for Duke Carl Eugen in 1764–69 on a ridge west of Stuttgart. Its oval central pavilion, ornate stucco interiors, and sweeping terrace reflect Württemberg court culture at its peak. The palace sits in tranquil forests and meadows with panoramic views toward Ludwigsburg and, on clear days, the Black Forest. Visitors come for architecture, landscaped grounds, and seasonal exhibitions; guided tours reveal preserved state rooms and the duke’s hunting retreat. Accessible by public transport, it pairs well with a walk or picnic along the historic Solitude Allee.
