Strasbourg, France
Église Saint-Thomas is Strasbourg’s principal Lutheran church and a rare example of Alsatian Gothic architecture. Known for its five-aisled hall church design, it houses the monumental 18th-century mausoleum of Marshal Saxe by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle and a renowned Silbermann organ once played by Mozart. The church’s spacious, light-filled interior contrasts with the city’s Catholic Gothic landmarks, offering a distinct Reformation heritage. Located near the Ill River, it’s an easy stop while exploring Petite France. Visit for its music history, elegant funerary art, and serene atmosphere rather than elaborate ornament. Admission is modest; concerts occur regularly.
