Ta Keo is a striking, unfinished temple-mountain in Angkor, built around the late 10th–early 11th century under Jayavarman V and Suryavarman I. Carved almost entirely from sandstone, its steep, tiered pyramidal form and minimal decoration reveal early Khmer architectural ambition in raw form. Climbing the narrow stairs rewards visitors with expansive views and a sense of Angkor’s engineering scale. There are fewer crowds than at marquee temples, but the ascent is demanding and there’s little shade. Visit if you value architecture, history, and atmosphere over ornate carving and restorations. Ideal paired with nearby Ta Prohm and Banteay Kdei.
