Siem Reap, Cambodia
Banteay Srei, 25 km northeast of Siem Reap, is a 10th‑century Hindu temple famed for its intricate pink sandstone carvings. Smaller than Angkor’s grand monuments, it offers exceptional detail—delicate lintels, mythological scenes, and crisp bas‑reliefs—often best seen in soft morning or late‑afternoon light. Built by a court official rather than a king, it provides insight into Angkorian artistry beyond royal commissions. The compact site is easy to navigate, pairs well with a visit to the nearby countryside or Phnom Kulen, and appeals to travelers interested in craftsmanship, photography, and early Khmer architecture. Admission is included in Angkor passes.
