Sevilla, Spain
Tucked in Seville’s Santa Cruz quarter, the 17th-century Hospital de los Venerables is a serene Baroque complex built for retired priests. Its appeal lies in a harmonious courtyard, richly decorated church with frescoes by Valdés Leal and his son, and a notable collection featuring works by Murillo and other Sevillian masters (often displayed by the Velázquez Center housed here). Visitors come for the intimate scale, superb Baroque art and architecture, and quiet atmosphere away from major crowds. It’s a rewarding stop if you enjoy art history, ecclesiastical spaces, and well-preserved Andalusian Baroque design.
