Santa Cruz de la Palma, Spain
The Real Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves, set in the hills above Santa Cruz de La Palma, is the island’s principal Marian shrine and home to a revered 14th‑century Flemish Madonna. The whitewashed sanctuary blends Canarian and Mudéjar elements, with a serene courtyard and notable silverwork and ex‑votos. Every five years, the statue is carried to the capital during the Bajada de la Virgen, La Palma’s signature festival. Visitors come for the devotional art, quiet atmosphere, and sweeping views; it’s an easy cultural stop, especially if paired with the Bajada route or nearby viewpoints.
