Samarkand, Uzbekistan
Shah-i-Zinda is one of Samarkand’s most striking historic sites: a narrow avenue of mausoleums decorated with some of the finest tilework in Central Asia. Built between the 11th and 15th centuries, the complex is both a major pilgrimage destination and a masterpiece of Timurid architecture. Visitors come for its intense blue mosaics, elegant inscriptions, and quiet, ceremonial atmosphere. If you are interested in Islamic art, architecture, or Samarkand’s layered history, Shah-i-Zinda is one of the city’s most rewarding places to visit.
