Samarkand, Uzbekistan
Bibi-Khanym Mosque is one of Samarkand’s most striking historic landmarks, built in the early 15th century under Timur. Once among the Islamic world’s largest mosques, it is known for its vast scale, blue-domed architecture, and richly tiled entrance portal. Though partly restored, it still conveys the ambition of Timurid Samarkand and offers a good sense of the city’s imperial past. Visit for its architectural drama, historical importance, and convenient location near other major sights, including the Siab Bazaar and Shah-i-Zinda.
