About Balbi’s Arch

Balbi’s Arch is the historic stone gateway to Rovinj’s old town, built in 1679 on the site of a former city gate. Named after the Venetian mayor Daniele Balbi, it reflects the town’s Venetian past, with carved heads on each side and the Lion of St. Mark above. Passing through the arch leads directly into Rovinj’s atmospheric maze of narrow streets, making it a small but meaningful stop for visitors interested in local history, architecture, and the character of the old town.
