Street of the Knights

The Street of the Knights in Rhodes (Ródos) is a remarkably intact medieval thoroughfare linking the Hospital of the Knights to the Palace of the Grand Master. Paved with worn cobblestones and lined with austere inns representing the Order’s “tongues” (national branches), it offers a clear window into 14th–16th century urban life. Its preserved Gothic and Ottoman layers, inscriptions, and coats of arms reward slow exploration. Visit for atmospheric architecture rather than shops or cafes; go early or late to avoid crowds and harsh light, and pair it with the nearby palace and Archaeological Museum for context.
