Pedra da Gávea is a dramatic granite monolith rising 842 meters between Rio’s São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca. Its challenging, well-marked trail (4–6 hours round-trip) rewards hikers with sweeping views of the Atlantic, Tijuca Forest, and Rio’s skyline. The route includes steep sections and light scrambling; good fitness, proper footwear, and dry conditions are recommended. Local guides are available. On clear mornings, vistas are outstanding, and wildlife is common. Not ideal for those averse to heights or strenuous hikes, but a standout option for adventurous visitors seeking Rio’s most panoramic, nature-rich viewpoint.
