Sun Voyager

Sun Voyager (Sólfar) is a striking stainless-steel sculpture on Reykjavík’s waterfront, created by Jón Gunnar Árnason. Shaped like a dreamboat or Viking ship, it symbolizes exploration and hope rather than a specific historical vessel. Facing Mount Esja and the bay, it’s especially photogenic at sunrise and sunset. The site is free, always open, and a short walk from Harpa Concert Hall. Visitors come for coastal views, minimalist design, and a calm pause along the seaside path. Note: it’s outdoors and exposed to wind; brief visits are typical unless you linger for light and weather.
