Hallgrímskirkja is Reykjavík’s landmark Lutheran church, known for its striking basalt-inspired façade and 73‑meter tower. Completed in 1986 and named for poet-pastor Hallgrímur Pétursson, it anchors the city skyline and offers a compact introduction to Icelandic modernist design. Visitors can ride an elevator to the observation deck for panoramic views over colorful rooftops, Faxaflói Bay, and nearby mountains. The simple, light-filled interior hosts regular services and organ recitals on a renowned pipe organ. Centrally located on Skólavörðuholt, it’s an easy stop for architecture, photography, and city‑view seekers. Admission applies for tower access.
