Strahov Monastery (Strahovský klášter), founded in 1143, crowns Prague’s Petřín hillside with Romanesque origins and Baroque grandeur. Its chief draw is the Strahov Library—two ornate halls, the Theological and Philosophical, lined with centuries-old volumes and frescoed ceilings. Visitors can also view rare manuscripts, a Cabinet of Curiosities, and art in the Strahov Gallery. The peaceful complex includes the Basilica of the Assumption and city views from its courtyards. A historic brewery nearby adds a casual stop. Ideal for travelers interested in architecture, books, and quiet contemplation slightly away from the Old Town crowds.
