Fort Adelaide (Citadel)

Fort Adelaide, or the Citadel, crowns a hill above Port Louis, offering sweeping views of the harbor, capital, and surrounding mountains. Built by the British in the 1830s to secure the city after the abolition of slavery, its basalt walls and battlements reflect colonial military design. The site is easy to access, with a short uphill walk or drive, and often hosts cultural events. There are informational panels but no extensive museum.
