Sacramento Trail

The Sacramento Trail is a scenic coastal walk in Port Elizabeth’s Sardinia Bay Nature Reserve. This 8 km (return) route follows cliffs and dunes to the Sacramento Cannon, commemorating a 1647 Portuguese shipwreck. Expect sweeping Indian Ocean views, fynbos, birdlife, and occasional dolphin or whale sightings in season. The path is mostly level with sandy sections; sturdy shoes, water, and sun protection are recommended. It’s ideal for half-day outings, photography, and nature lovers seeking a quiet, accessible hike close to the city. Note: no shade, minimal facilities, and strong winds are possible. Pets are typically not permitted.
