Levada Nova

Levada Nova is a scenic, relatively easy walking trail above Ponta do Sol on Madeira’s south coast. Following an irrigation channel along terraced hillsides, it offers wide views of the Atlantic, rural villages, banana plantations, and dramatic valleys. The path includes short tunnels and sections with railings, adding interest without being technical; sturdy shoes and a torch are useful. It’s best in clear weather and can be walked in sections, making it suitable for casual hikers seeking landscape photography and everyday Madeiran life. Those with vertigo should note occasional narrow, exposed stretches.
