Casco Viejo, Panama City’s historic district and UNESCO World Heritage Site, blends colonial Spanish, French, and Caribbean influences in a compact, walkable peninsula. Visitors find restored plazas, 17th–19th-century churches, museums, and rooftop views of the modern skyline and Bay of Panama. Cafés, galleries, and boutique hotels fill renovated mansions, while ruins and murals reveal the area’s layered past. It’s best explored on foot by day, with ample dining and nightlife after dark. Expect cobblestones, some construction, and higher prices than elsewhere, but strong police presence and easy access make it a practical base for culture, cuisine, and photography.
