About Zisa Palace

The Zisa Palace is a 12th-century Norman pleasure residence reflecting Palermo’s unique Arab-Norman heritage. Built by Arab craftsmen for King William I, it showcases refined muqarnas ceilings, cooling water features, and geometric stucco that blend Islamic aesthetics with European forms. The small museum displays Islamic art and artifacts found on-site, adding context to Sicily’s multicultural past. Located west of the historic center, Zisa is quieter than major landmarks yet offers a clear view of Palermo’s cross-cultural architecture. Visit if you value architectural synthesis, serene interiors, and a focused glimpse into the island’s medieval cosmopolitanism.
