Pura Meru is Lombok’s largest and most important Hindu temple, set in central Mataram. Built in 1720, it features three striking multi-tiered meru shrines dedicated to the Hindu Trinity, within a spacious walled complex used for major ceremonies. Visitors can appreciate its distinctive Sasak-Balinese architecture, quiet courtyards, and living religious traditions. Modest dress is expected; a sarong is often required and may be available on-site. Best visited with a local guide or during daylight hours to understand its history and symbolism. Ideal for travelers interested in culture, architecture, and Lombok’s Hindu heritage.
