About Bab Agnaou

Bab Agnaou is a 12th-century stone gate marking the historic entrance to Marrakech’s royal Kasbah. Built under Almohad rule, its horseshoe arch, carved kufic inscriptions, and dark sandstone give it a distinctive, photogenic presence. While the interior isn’t visitable, the gate’s craftsmanship and setting near the Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace make it an easy, worthwhile stop on a Kasbah walk. Visit for architecture, history, and quick photos rather than extended touring; early morning or late afternoon light best reveals its reliefs. A short, free visit pairs well with nearby monuments and local cafés.
