Lübeck, Germany
Lübeck, Germany
The Salzspeicher are a row of striking brick warehouses on Lübeck’s Trave River, built mainly in the 16th and 17th centuries to store salt, a commodity central to the city’s Hanseatic wealth. Their stepped gables and waterside setting make them one of Lübeck’s most recognizable historic views. While the buildings are not a major museum attraction inside, they are well worth seeing for their architecture, their role in Lübeck’s trading history, and their location near the Holstentor and old town.
