About St Thomas Church

St. Thomas Church (Thomaskirche) is a landmark of Leipzig and the spiritual home of Johann Sebastian Bach, who served as cantor here from 1723 to 1750. Visitors can see Bach’s grave, hear renowned choral and organ music, and explore exhibits on the composer and the church’s musical tradition. The Gothic hall church, with its soaring interior and stained glass, also recalls Martin Luther’s Reformation preaching in Leipzig. Concerts by the St. Thomas Boys Choir are a highlight; check schedules in advance. Centrally located near the market square, the church is an atmospheric stop for music and history lovers.
