About Church of Saint Lazarus

The 9th‑century Church of Saint Lazarus is Larnaca’s most evocative landmark, built over the reputed tomb of Lazarus, whom, according to tradition, fled to Cyprus after his resurrection. Its honey‑colored stone, three domes, and richly carved iconostasis reflect Byzantine and later influences. Inside, candlelit icons, silver reliquaries, and a small museum illustrate centuries of Orthodox devotion. Located steps from the seafront and Finikoudes, it’s easy to combine with a stroll through old Larnaca. Visit for its history, serene atmosphere, and religious significance rather than grandeur; modest dress is appreciated. Free entry; donations welcome.
