Kyŏngju, South Korea
Cheomseongdae, in Gyeongju, is one of East Asia’s oldest surviving observatories and a landmark of Korea’s Silla Kingdom. Built in the 7th century, its simple stone silhouette stands in a grassy park near other major historic sites, making it an easy stop while exploring the city. Visitors come less for dramatic views than for its historical significance: Cheomseongdae offers a compact, memorable glimpse into early Korean science, royal culture, and Gyeongju’s role as an ancient capital.
