Kyŏngju, South Korea
Bunhwangsa, in historic Kyŏngju, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in South Korea, founded in 634 during the Silla kingdom. Its main draw is the distinctive stone pagoda, a rare early example of Silla Buddhist architecture. Although much of the original complex has been lost, the site remains appealing for its historical importance and quiet atmosphere. Visitors interested in Korean history, Buddhism, or early architecture will find Bunhwangsa a worthwhile stop, especially when combined with Kyŏngju’s other nearby Silla-era monuments.
