Key Largo, United States
The USS Duane is a historic 327-foot Coast Guard cutter intentionally sunk in 1987 off Key Largo, now one of the Florida Keys’ signature advanced dives. Resting upright at about 120 feet, it offers intact superstructure, growth-rich hulls, and frequent pelagic sightings like barracuda and occasional sharks. Good visibility and strong currents are common. Penetration is possible for trained divers with guides; recreational divers can explore exterior features, including radar masts and gun mounts. Not suitable for beginners or snorkelers, the Duane appeals to experienced divers seeking a well-preserved artificial reef with notable maritime history.
