Jules’ Undersea Lodge in Key Largo is the world’s first underwater hotel, accessible only by scuba dive to a habitat set 21 feet beneath the surface. Formerly a marine research lab, it offers overnight stays with picture windows onto a mangrove lagoon and marine life. Guests need scuba certification (or can take a guided course), and amenities include air-conditioned quarters, hot showers, and meal delivery. It’s best suited to adventurous travelers interested in marine environments and novelty lodging rather than luxury. Day experiences and educational programs are also available, making it a distinctive stop in the Florida Keys.
