Kandy, Sri Lanka
Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue, perched on a hill just outside central Kandy, is one of Sri Lanka’s tallest Buddha statues. The white, seated figure overlooks the city and Kandy Lake, offering panoramic views, especially striking at sunset and when illuminated at night. Visitors can climb to the viewpoint terrace, explore the small temple, and observe local worship. Access involves a short tuk-tuk ride and a modest entrance/donation. It’s a worthwhile stop for photography and a calm break from the city’s bustle; allow 30–60 minutes. Dress modestly and remove shoes when entering temple areas.
