Hawa Mahal, or the “Palace of Winds,” is Jaipur’s iconic pink sandstone facade built in 1799 for royal women to observe street life unseen. Its five-story honeycomb of 900+ jharokha windows channels cooling breezes, a clever response to Rajasthan’s heat. Visitors come for its distinctive architecture, city views from the upper floors, and insight into Rajput court life and craftsmanship. Located in the Old City near Jantar Mantar and City Palace, it’s easy to combine in a half-day. Best visited early morning for softer light and thinner crowds; the small on-site museum adds historical context.
