Irákleio, Greece
Morosini Fountain, at the heart of Irákleio’s Lions Square, is a lively landmark and easy orientation point. Built in 1628 by Venetian governor Francesco Morosini, it supplied fresh water to the city and still showcases refined Venetian engineering. Eight basins ringed by sculpted reliefs feed from a central bowl supported by four lions—symbols of Venice. Today, the fountain anchors a pedestrian hub of cafés, shops, and street life, making it ideal for a relaxed stop between museum visits or market strolls. Visit for its history, photo-friendly details, and as a pleasant pause in the city’s bustle.
