Inverness Castle crowns the River Ness with striking red sandstone walls and panoramic city views. Built in the 19th century on the site of earlier fortifications, it long served as the sheriff court and is now being transformed into a major visitor attraction. While interiors may be partially under redevelopment, the grounds and nearby viewpoints offer excellent photo stops and an easy add-on to a walk along the river. Visit for its Highland history, vantage over Inverness and the Great Glen, and proximity to museums, shops, and eateries in the compact city center.
