Craig Phadrig is a wooded hill and ancient hillfort overlooking Inverness and the Beauly Firth. Once a stronghold of Pictish kings, it offers a short, waymarked walk through quiet forest to the summit plateau, where low ramparts and interpretive boards outline its Iron Age history. Views are partially tree-screened but rewarding, especially toward the firth and Ben Wyvis. It’s a low-key, free alternative to busier sites, best for walkers, history enthusiasts, and families seeking a peaceful outing close to the city. Limited facilities; parking is available at the forest entrance.
