Hội An, Vietnam
My Son Sanctuary, about an hour from Hội An, is a complex of red-brick Hindu temples built by the Champa kingdom between the 4th and 13th centuries. Set in a jungle valley, its crumbling towers and sandstone carvings reveal Cham artistry and Indian influences. War damage is visible, but restored clusters—especially groups B, C, and D—offer a clear sense of the site’s layout and ritual purpose. Visit for early morning light, cooler temperatures, and fewer crowds. Best for travelers interested in Southeast Asian history, archaeology, and architecture rather than pristine ruins. Audio guides and onsite exhibits add context.
