Thien Hau Temple, in Ho Chi Minh City’s Cholon (District 5), is a 19th‑century Chinese-style temple dedicated to Mazu, the Goddess of the Sea. Known for its atmospheric incense coils, intricate woodcarvings, and reliefs depicting seafaring legends, it offers a calm window into the city’s Hoa (Chinese Vietnamese) heritage. Visitors come to observe active worship, admire restored courtyards and ceramic dioramas, and photograph filtered light and smoke. It’s a short, cultural stop—best combined with nearby markets and pagodas. Modest dress and respectful behavior are expected; mornings are quieter, while festival days bring lively processions. Free or small donation.
