Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
Hikkaduwa National Park protects a shallow coral reef just off Sri Lanka’s southwest coast. Easily reached from the beach, it offers snorkeling and glass-bottom boat trips over hard and soft corals, with sightings of reef fish, turtles, and occasional rays. The reef has suffered past bleaching and visitor pressure, so expect patchy coral alongside healthier sections and follow local guidelines. Calm seas from December to April provide the best visibility. Suitable for families and first-time snorkelers, it’s a convenient marine experience near Hikkaduwa town, though serious divers may prefer larger reefs elsewhere. Entrance fees support conservation.
