Tran Quoc Pagoda, Hanoi’s oldest Buddhist temple, sits on a small islet in West Lake, linked by a short causeway. Founded in the 6th century, it features a striking 11-tiered stupa, serene courtyards, and centuries-old bodhi trees descended from the tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. Visitors come for quiet reflection, lake views at sunrise or sunset, and insight into Vietnamese Buddhist art and ritual. Modest attire is expected, and early mornings are least crowded. It’s a rewarding stop for history, architecture, and photography within easy reach of central Hanoi.
