Guatemala City, Guatemala
Kaminaljuyú is a rare window into Guatemala City’s ancient past: a major Maya site that once controlled trade routes in the highlands. Although much of it lies beneath the modern city, the archaeological park preserves several earthen mounds and offers insight into early Maya urban life, engineering, and burial traditions. It is best suited to visitors interested in archaeology and history rather than grand ruins, but its location within the capital makes it an accessible and worthwhile stop for understanding Guatemala beyond its colonial and modern landmarks.
