Dubrovnik, Croatia
Fort Bokar, perched on Dubrovnik’s seafront by the Pile Gate, is a 15th‑century round tower designed by Michelozzo to defend the city’s western wall and harbor. Its thick stone walls, sea-facing battlements, and position opposite Lovrijenac Fortress make it a standout example of medieval coastal fortification. Visitors come for panoramic views of the Adriatic, the Old City walls, and passing kayaks below, as well as to grasp Dubrovnik’s strategic defense system. Access is typically via the City Walls walk; plan for steps and uneven surfaces. Best visited in early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds.
