Doha, Qatar
Al Zubarah Fort, a well-preserved 1930s coastal fort north of Doha, anchors Qatar’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built for coastal defense and later used as a garrison and police station, it now serves as a small museum introducing the nearby ruins of Al Zubarah, a once-thriving 18th–19th century pearling and trade town. Visitors come for the stark desert setting, sturdy crenellated walls, and exhibits that outline regional maritime history and archaeology. It’s a worthwhile half-day trip for history enthusiasts and photographers; facilities are basic, and combining with a guided visit to the archaeological site adds context.
