Sakenan Temple is a serene 10th‑century sea temple on Serangan Island, just south of Denpasar. Founded by revered priest Mpu Kuturan, it’s significant for the Piodalan Kuningan festival, when thousands gather for colorful processions and ocean-front rituals. The complex blends coral-stone shrines and banyan-shaded courtyards with views of Benoa Bay. Outside festival days, it’s quiet, offering insight into Balinese Hindu practice without large crowds. Access is easy via the Serangan bridge; modest dress and a sarong are required. Visit if you value cultural heritage, coastal scenery, and a less commercial temple experience near Bali’s urban center.
