Cozumel, Mexico
Cozumel, Mexico
San Gervasio Archaeological Site is Cozumel’s most significant Maya ruin, once a pilgrimage center dedicated to Ixchel, goddess of fertility and the moon. Set in low jungle, it features temples, arches, sacbeob (white roads), and resident iguanas. Informative signage and shaded paths make it easy to explore in an hour or two. It’s best for travelers interested in Maya history, archaeology, and quieter sites rather than grand pyramids. Combine with a cenote stop or beach time nearby. Go early for cooler temperatures and fewer mosquitoes; bring water and repellent. Modest entry and separate vehicle fees apply.
