Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral is one of Cluj-Napoca’s most recognizable landmarks, standing prominently at Avram Iancu Square. Built in the 1920s–30s, it is the city’s main Romanian Orthodox cathedral and an important symbol of Transylvanian identity after the union of 1918. Visitors come for its monumental Byzantine-inspired architecture, large dome, and richly decorated interior. Even if you are not visiting for worship, it is worth a stop for its historical significance, elegant design, and central location near several other major sights.
