Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chiang Mai, Thailand
Wat Chedi Luang is a 14th–15th-century Lanna temple best known for its massive, partially ruined brick chedi, once the tallest structure in ancient Chiang Mai. The site offers a clear sense of the city’s former capital status, with elephant carvings, serene viharns, and a city-pillar shrine nearby. It’s central, easy to visit, and particularly atmospheric at dusk. While the original Emerald Buddha once resided here (now in Bangkok), replicas and informative signage help frame its history. Ideal for travelers interested in architecture, local Buddhism, and Chiang Mai’s heritage rather than elaborate interiors.
